Depuis “Eloge de l'ombre”, leur première collaboration, en 1997, Bertrand Couderc a éclairé de nombreux spectacles de Jacques Rebotier dont "Réponse à la Question Précédente", "ZooMuzique", "Les Ouvertures sont" ou bien "Le Jeu d'Adam"...

Il travaille aussi avec Patrice Chéreau pour qui il vient d'éclairer "Tristan und Isolde" à la Scala de Milan dirigé par Daniel Barenboim, après “De la maison des morts” de Janacek, direction Pierre Boulez à Vienne, Amsterdam et Aix-en-Provence, en 2007 et “Cosi fan tutte”, au festival d’Aix-en-Provence et à l’Opéra de Paris en 2005.

Au festival d'Aix-en-Provence 2004, il a éclairé “L'amour des 3 oranges“ de Prokofiev, direction Tugan Sokhiev, mise en scène de Philippe Calvario dont il a aussi fait les lumière pour “Angels in America” de Peter Eotvos au théâtre du Châtelet en 2004. Au théâtre, il a éclairé pour lui “Grand et Petit”, “Richard III”, “La Mouette”...
Citons également ses collaborations avec Bruno Bayen pour “La fuite en Egypte”, ‘Stella” de Goethe et “Les Névroses sexuelles de nos parents” de L.Berfuss à Vidy-Lausanne. Il a créé la lumière pour ”Colza” et "Marguerite, reine des prés" de Karin Serres.

Sa lumière préférée ? C'est le soleil juste après l'orage, fort et clair sur le macadam mouillé. Il aime la peinture de Rembrandt, les photos d'Irving Penn et les livres de Jim Harrison. Il écoute "Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig" (Cantate Bwv 26 Johann-Sebastian Bach), les Gurre Lieder (Arnold Schönberg) et Unknown Pleasures (Joy Division). Et il regarde inlassablement M (Fritz Lang 1931) Written on the Wind (Douglas Sirk 1956) et Stalker (Andreï Tarkovski 1979).

Bertrand Couderc gestaltete das Lichtdesign für Prokofiews Liebe zu den drei Orangen beim Festival d´Aix-en-Provence 2004 in der Inszenierung von Philippe Calvario, mit dem er seit über zehn Jahren zusammen arbeitet: Angels in America von Peter Eötvös am Théâtre die Châtelet, Groß und Klein von Botho Strauß, Roberto Zucco von Koltés und Die Möwe von Tschechow am Bouffes du Nord. Seit 1997 gemeinsame Produktionen mit Jacques Rebotier: Éloge de l´ombre von Tanizaki, Les Ouvertures sont von Rebotier am Amandiers in Nanterre sowie Le Jeu d´Adam am Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier. Er beleuchtete weiters Inszenierungen von Karin Serres, wie Colza am Théâtre de l´Est in Paris und Marguerite, reine des prés, und von Bruno Bayen, wie etwa Die sexuellen Neurosen unserer Eltern von Lukas Bärfuss in Vidy-Lausanne, Stella von Goethe am MC93 in Bobigny.
Seit 2005 arbeitet er mit dem französischen Regissor Patrice Chéreau wie Così fan tutte in Aix-en-Provence, Paris und Wien,im 2007 "Aus Einem Totenhaus" von Janacek, Dirigent Pierre Boulez in Wien, Amsterdam und "Tristan und Isolde", Dirigent Daniel Barenboim am Teatro alla Scala in Mailand.

Bertrand Couderc - Light Designer

Bertrand Couderc has designed many theatre plays and operas in France, and Europe.
In 2007, he lit "Tristan und Isolde" at the Scala, conductor Daniel Barenboim, directed by Patrice Chéreau. With Patrice Chéreau, he made "From the House of the Dead", conductor Pierre Boulez in Vienna. In2005, he designed Cosi fan Tutte" at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. "Cosi" was held in September in the Opera de Paris. It will be held in Vienna for the Mozart festival in May 2006. With Patrice Chéreau, he also designed "Le Mausolée des Amants" in the National Theatre of the Odeon-Paris. He used to work with Philippe Calvario since 1998. He lit Prokofiev's “Love of the Three Oranges" at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2004, and "Angels in America" by Peter Eötvös in 2004 at the Théâtre du Châtelet for the world creation… Botho Strauss "Great and Small" in the Bouffes du Nord-Paris (directed by Peter Brook), Roberto Zucco by Koltès (Bouffes du Nord-Paris)…Chekhov's Seagull in Rennes and Paris. He has just designed "Richard the Third" this autumn in Nanterre Amandiers and on tour with Philippe Torreton as Gloucester. He works also with Bruno Bayen, playwright and director, for Goethe's "Stella" in MC93 Bobigny, "La fuite en Egypte" in Gennevilliers and in Switzerland " Les névroses sexuelles de nos parents" in the Vidy Lausanne Theater.
